Italy is the cradle of classical European ballet, and Balletto di Milano is called its ambassador and is rightfully considered one of the most prestigious theaters in Italy. The skill of Milanese dancers is admired by audiences all over the world. More than 40 years of work and successful performances both in Italy and on the best stages of England, Ireland, Switzerland, Spain, Germany and United States.
Now the famous Balletto di Milano troupe will present for the first time in Cyprus one of its best projects - the ballet Carmen.
The play, written by the outstanding French writer of the 19th century Prosper Merimee, sparkled with new colors performed by Italian dancers.
Over the course of 2 acts, you will plunge into a story of love, passion and tragedy. A story that will never lose its relevance. Which still causes a storm of emotions and discussions. Free, unbridled and sacrificial love on the part of the young soldier Jose, who became a deserter and smuggler for the sake of the beautiful gypsy Carmen, who values her own freedom above all else. Infatuated with the Toreador, Carmen dies at the hands of her lover, who stabbed her to death in a fit of jealousy. Who is the antagonist in this story? It's up to you to decide.

Enhanced in set and costumes, Carmen by Balletto di Milano is confirmed as one of the most anticipated productions of the season. Carmen, beautiful and unconventional, passionate and desired, who challenges anyone who wants to subdue her, and Destiny, so well described by the omnipresent leitmotiv of music, are the protagonists of this exclusive version of Balletto di Milano. A bewitching face in which Carmen will understand that the only way to live as she wishes is to bend to him, to the Fate, and accept the impending death that has been announced by the cards.
It is the confrontation / clash between the gypsy symbol of femininity and the belonging figure who controls the story from the first scene. It is in fact Destiny that puts Don José first and recorded Escamillo on the road of Carmen, revealing himself through the symbols of the cards (love, betrayal, death), to arm Don Josè’s hand and, in the final, to bring Carmen with him.
Don Josè, the bullfighter Escamillo and Micaela are the other main interpreters of this ballet full of engaging choreography: from the famous “Habanera”, to the many and lively ensemble dances of Gitani, Soldati and Sigaraie on the music by Georges Bizet. Tradition and modernity also coexist in the climate of energy from the Marco Pesta’s original stage design. The production doesn’t betray the expectations for tradition, remaining faithful to the Prosper Mérimée’s tale and to the famous opera by Georges Bizet.
